Help us to get help to those who need it most this winter
Winter is the busiest time of the year for your NHS and we ask that you do what you can to help ensure that we get help to those who need it most.
When Your GP Practice is Open (In-hours)
Many common winter illnesses can be dealt with using in-hours services such as a routine appointment at your local GP practice.
When Your GP Practice is Closed (Out-of-Hours)
Out-of-hours services are provided by NHS Boards. Operating in the evening, weekends and public holidays, they are designed to provide a service only to those patients who have an immediate need and cannot wait until their GP Practice re-opens.
Access to out-of-hours services is through NHS 24 on 08454 24 24 24.
In the event of an emergency, you should dial 999
Emergencies
As always, the Scottish Ambulance Service will respond to medical emergencies during winter. If you think you need an emergency ambulance you should call 999. All calls to the ambulance service are prioritised so that those who are seriously ill receive the fastest response. If you are not so ill as to need immediate treatment from a paramedic, then the ambulance call-taker will give you advice on the most appropriate route to care.
